Apple users know that the Find My iPhone function is very useful, but sometimes you want to sell, give away , or trade in for your own iPhone , or when you need to send your device for repair , you need to turn off Find My iPhone.

Part 1: What is the use of finding my iPhone

To put it simply, the Find My iPhone function is the function of losing your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, or if you think it may be stolen, to retrieve the device and protect the information.

Specifically, if “Find My iPhone” is enabled on the lost device

1. You can use the “Find” function.

After the device is lost, you can log in to the official iCloud webpage, or use the “Find” function on another Apple device.

2. You can find equipment.

Click “Find” on the iCloud website or another Apple device. Select the device to view its location on the map. If the device is nearby, you can make it play a tone to help you or others nearby find it.

3. The device can be marked as lost.

Open the “Find” function and select the “Device” tab. Select the lost device, scroll down to “Mark as Lost”, and select “Enable.” If you want to show your phone number on the lost device, or if you want to enter a custom message so that the person who found your device can contact you, follow the steps on the screen. Select “Enable”

4. Erase your device

To prevent others from accessing the data on your lost device, you can remotely erase the device. After you erase the device, all your information (including credit, debit or stored value cards used for Apple Pay) will be deleted from the device

But note: After erasing the device, you will not be able to use the “Find” app or “Find iPhone” on iCloud.com to find the device, nor can you track the device. If you remove the device from your account after erasing it, the “Activation Lock” will be turned off.

Part 2: Why do I need to turn off Find My iPhone?

After turning off Find My iPhone, the functions mentioned above will be unavailable, and your device will not be able to be retrieved. So why turn off “Find My iPhone”?

When the device is sold, given away or traded in for purchase, or if the device is sent for repair, it is generally necessary to turn off Find My iPhone in order not to affect other people’s use.

Part 3: How to turn off “Find My iPhone”

Turning off Find My iPhone is divided into two situations: one is that you can still use your own iPhone, and you can turn it off by this device; the other is that you can no longer use your own iPhone, you can go through the “Find me” on the iCloud official website IPhone” remove the device to turn off.

Method one: shut down through the machine

1. Open “Settings”.

2. Tap “[your name]”> “Find”..

3. Tap “Find My iPhone”, then tap to turn it off, and enter your Apple ID password. (Note: The closing of Find My iPhone mentioned here is all closed when the account and password are known)

4. Tap “Close”.

Method 2: Turn off the device by removing the device through “Find My iPhone” on the iCloud official website

  1. Open the iCloud search page, enter the Apple ID and password, and log in to your account.
  2. Click Erase Device. Since the device has not been lost, please do not enter a phone number or information. If the device is offline, the remote erase operation will start the next time the device goes online. After you erase the device, you will receive the relevant email.
  3. After the device is wiped, click “Remove from Account”

Part 4: Log out of iCloud on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV or Mac

In fact, there is another way to log out of iCloud on your own device.

When you log out of iCloud, you will be asked if you want to keep a copy of the information you stored in iCloud on your device. No matter what you choose to do with it, your information will remain in iCloud. However, after logging out of iCloud, you will not be able to access or use the following services on your device:

Apple Pay, Apple Cash and Apple Card.
